Meet Julia, the "Sesame Street" Puppet With Autism! by Renee

After more than a decade, "Sesame Street" is welcoming a new puppet to the neighborhood! Julia, a puppet with autism, is a 4-year-old who loves to sing and paint. Julia does not like loud noises, usually repeats what others say, and flaps her hands when she is upset. "Sesame Street" wants to demonstrate characteristics of autism positively and to disprove misconceptions surrounding the disorder.

According to the National Autism Association, autism affects one in 68 children. No two cases of autism look the same, but it usually affects communication and social interactions. "Sesame Street" hopes that Julia will promote compassion and inclusion with young children and continue to show that all kids are amazing!

Be sure to tune in for Julia’s debut on April 10! You can learn more about Julia via NPR here! The video is longer than 30 seconds, but we thought you might like to meet Julia! You can watch Julia's TV debut here!
