One of the glam-est nights of the year is fast approaching – the 2017 Academy Awards™! Not only are the Oscars™ the culmination of awards season, but they are a star-studded celebration of cinema. To help all of us add a little glam to our own viewing party, we were thrilled to have #30Seconds featured contributor Cheryl Leahy as our special guest at this week’s Twitter chat. Read on for her red-carpet ideas!
Q: How can I throw a fun Oscars™ party at home and not spend a ton of money?
- Pick a color theme – gold and black, gold and red, use items from home, scarves, etc.
- Dollar store! They have plates, straws, forks, decor. Add glitter and done!
- Have one big decoration, like one massive balloon with smaller surrounding, one big bouquet with bud vases around.
- Plastic tablecloths make great backdrops!
- Candles are cheap and cheerful. Spray paint votives gold and trim with red ribbon.
@CYJones30 @Walgreens Did u know that you can MAIL a box of candy as an invitation? Just address it! I did that 4 a party once #30seconds

Q: What about Oscars™ cocktails? Any ideas?
- Prosecco + Wild Hibiscus Co. is simple and elegant.
- How about La La Land Limoncello? Prosecco + limoncello + lemon wedge garnish.
- Moonlight Martini = half and half, vanilla vodka, white chocolate liqueur and creme de cacao.
- Non-alcoholic? Use natural syrups and add to soda water! Jo Snow Syrups are my fave!

Q: How do celebs always look good in photos?
- Find your good side and turn for photos. Usually your left side is best.
- Don’t face camera head on, turn your head to create depth.
- Have photo taken from above, tilt head up when seated.
- Keep arms away from your body. One or two hands on waist.
- Stand up straight! Good posture is key.
