DIY Rice Sock: A Safe Way to Provide Warmth to Kids at Bedtime! by Dr. Jamie Krenn
Every child loves comfort at nighttime. Warmth at bedtime is helpful when trying to beckon Mr. Sandman. Help your child get to sleep with a little help from you and a few household items by making a rice sock. Rice socks stay warm for several minutes after you microwave them. They also lose their heat over time in a safe way, rather than plug-in electric heating pads that can cause burns if not monitored adequately.
You’ll need:
- 1 old (but clean) soft sock
- 1 cup rice
- spoon or funnel
Here’s how to make it:
- Place rice in the sock using a spoon or funnel.
- Tie a knot securely at the end.
- Microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Test heat before giving it to your child.
Sleep well!
