Your Heart Knows the Answer: How to Stay Peaceful in These Troubled Political Times

With the political climate these days, I’m torn between keeping abreast and taking space. I’m compelled to check my news apps every night, wanting to know what’s going on, yet knowing it only drains my positive, loving energy and affects my sleep. Sometimes, I give in. Others, I refrain, and am so glad I did.

The point is: right now, if you don’t consciously choose not to get drawn in – and be affected negatively – you probably will. We must choose when we really need to know and when we need not to. I have a list of options to choose from when my heart says no:

  • Hang with my son.
  • Close my eyes and feel my breath.
  • Remember that light is stronger than dark, and trust that it is so.

So, make a list like me – and stick to it. Or ask your heart in the moment.

I feel you, @gailharris. I want to watch the news to stay informed, but find my blood pressure rising as I do. So it's a good reminder to take a break from it completely and do things we love.
