Parenting During a Trump Presidency: Be the Change You Wish to See in the World!

Millions of Americans celebrated when Donald Trump was inaugurated, while over 66 million did not. I have been reflecting on my children’s current and future responses to a Trump presidency. Here is how I have chosen to think about my own parenting in these contentious times: My children will not learn about right and wrong from the First Family, but rather from their own family and other influential people in their lives.

I will encourage my children to befriend kids who don’t look like them, include kids who are being left out, advocate for themselves and others and be kind to everyone. As a family we will hold our core values dear and speak out against injustice. The residents of the White House won’t change any of this. We can continue to be the change we wish to see in the world.
