The Letter I Wrote to Hillary Clinton That Made Me Feel Better

Dear Madam Secretary,

I consider myself a writer, yet I am at a loss for words on this somber day. Yesterday was the most hopeful I have felt in a long time, and I was honored to be able to bring my 4-month-old son to the polls with me so we could proudly place our vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton: YOU. I walked out with a huge smile on my face, snapped a selfie with my baby and my husband and with pride was able to post on social media for everyone to see #imwithher.

I’m one of millions and millions of women who have been wildly affected by your service to our great country and was finally able to say thank you in the form of a vote at the polls. The fact that the electoral college took this country in a direction that none of us wanted does not negate the passion, humility and love we felt when we placed that vote and made HERstory.

Thank you for fighting for us, our children and our families.
Thank you for providing millions of children with healthcare.
Thank you for protecting our LGBT brethren.
Thank you for boldly telling the world that “women’s rights are human rights.”
And thank you for gracefully telling the world just this morning: “To all the little girls, never doubt that you are powerful and worthy of pursuing your own dreams.”

I have been speechless for the past twelve hours, but I can muster up the words to say THANK YOU. Thank you with my full heart for teaching me and women and girls everywhere that we can do and be anything ... even the President. You will be President in my heart for the next eight years and I am forever grateful for you.

Take a nap, have a glass of wine, give yourself a well-deserved break, and sleep well at night knowing that you are an inspiration to men, women, little boys and little girls all over the world. We appreciate you and thank you for your service.

With love and hope,

Erica Bethe Kane

Me, too. I am welled up like @elisa. Thank you Erica Kane for taking the time to write and to share this. I think that for those of us who are deeply disappointed, the disappointment can serve as call to be who we truly are more than ever. That doesn't necessarily mean to join the women's march in Washington this coming February. It means that we can use this disappointment as fuel to love and honor ourselves more, and from that only good will happen. Exactly what will happen when we trust our inner, true selves? That, my friend, will be revealed to us each and every new day.

Oh Erica Kane what a beautiful letter. I hope Mrs. Clinton gets to read it! Well said!
