PlayCHIC Inspired Fashion With Chicago Toy & Game Week!

It’s no secret fashion is about having fun, but imagine if you crossed toys and games with haute couture fashion! You’d get fashion pieces that have the power to stun and captivate people! And that’s exactly what happens at the PlayCHIC fashion show. Every year, for the past five years during Chicago Toy & Game Week, which is the largest toy industry fair and the only one that is open to the public, the crown jewel is a play-themed fashion show. Sponsors and co-hosts from Chicago Toy & Game Week joined us to talk about the event – and have some fun in the process!

Q: Tell us what inspired the PlayCHIC fashion show five years ago?

Fashion is about having fun! We thought how cool to pair toymakers and playful brands with fashion designers during Chicago Toy & Game Week. PlayCHIC has become the style-savvy jewel in the crown of the annual event. The show celebrates the talented inventors behind the toys and games we love to play brought to life in a fashion piece. We believe kids play dress up, grownups PlayCHIC. It’s incredible to see what comes down the runway by the talented designers. Last year we showcased this stunner designed by Michelle Tan, inspired by SpinMaster and Meccano. You can see more photos from last year here.

Q: What’s new this year at PlayCHIC?

So much! Venue moved to the fabulous Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier. PlayCHIC is now the TAGIE Awards After Party because fashion is more fun after dark! We’re thrilled to team up with Chicago’s hottest fashion designers in the biz this year! Savvy Souk is taking over producing a one-of-a-kind runway show with Borris J. Powell as the host.

We're celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Twister! Borris J. Powell and Elda de la Rosa will both have Twister-inspired looks on the runway. The Maya Group is working on the most imaginative looks inspired by Orbeez and PomPom Wow. We can’t spill the beans but we promise you it will be colorful, creative and like nothing you’ve seen before! Be sure to follow @ChiTAGWeek and #chitag for playful updates as we get closer!

Q: How can people attend PlayCHIC?

Tickets are $50 and a portion of the proceeds benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago. You can purchase here, but hurry tickets are going fast! Tickets include red carpet, open bar, playful desserts and after party by Fig Media Inc. with DJ Brent Rolland. Doors open at 8:00 p.m. for cocktails and the show begins at 9:00 p.m.! Dress to impress!

Q: Tell us more about this year’s designers.

We are thrilled to have Borris J. Powell not only as our host, but creating a Twister-inspired look for men. Borris believes in making women feel beautiful. He says, "When you look good, you feel good and everything else will fall into place.” Elda de la Rosa returns as a PlayCHIC alumni, who’s designs have been singled out by NBC news and top bridal publications! Elda will be working with Twister to create a one-of-a-kind gown. Each designer will also showcase pieces from their personal collections, too!

Q: Anything else we should know about PlayCHIC?

Each year we have a team of PlayCHIC ambassadors who help us spread the word. Excited to announce this year’s team tonight for the first time. Alison Ray ( So Chic Life), Cheryl Leahy (All Dressed Up With Nothing to Drink…), Savvy Souk and April Giannosa (Knocked Up Fabulous) are returning ambassadors. Welcome our new ambassadors Nicole Regan, Chrissy Jones (Beyond the Park), Mom Most Traveled, and Kate Loscalzo. Be sure to follow our ambassadors for PlayCHIC updates! See you November 18 at Navy Pier!

We can’t wait to see what looks come down the runway! Be sure to follow @ChiTAGWeek, @themayagroup, @myPomPomWow, @SoChicLife, @CJAllDressedUp, @SavvySouk and @borrisp, and visit to learn more about the event!
