With Teens, You Need to Skip "Fast Forward" & Push "Pause" Instead!

Parenting teens can be filled with twists and turns. As you navigate this journey, recognize that it is so easy to let one situation define the way you see the future for your kids. That's where we have to take a step back and think.

Example: When my son doesn’t follow through on one thing, I can let my fears and thoughts run away from me and think he is never going to land a job post college. That’s crazy! Or when my daughter makes a choice I don’t agree with, my emotions lead me to think her life is doomed! Say what? Not even close!

As parents, we’ve made our own mistakes that ultimately made us stronger, wiser, better. Let’s not take that away from our kids! As hard as it might be, allow your teens to make mistakes and learn from them. It will make them stronger and wiser in the end!

As the parent of teens, I really appreciate this tip, Kelli Schulte! You are so right. We've made our own mistakes, and as hard as it may be to watch our kids do the same, we absolutely need to step back and give them the space to make their own path, wherever it may lead. Thank you!

Oh my gosh Elisa All 30SecondMom, isn't it the worst and the hardest thing to do!? And yet, I know when I look back, I learned way more about myself and what is important through my mistakes than through my successes.
