Is Your Teen Dealing With Rejection or Disappointment! How to Help!

Watching our kids experience failure, rejection or disappointment can be one of the hardest things we do as parents. So how can you help? Start by encouraging your teen to look at the situation from a different perspective.

  • Reflect: What are you are learning about yourself in the process? What surprises you? What do you wish would change? Stay the same?
  • Recognize: This is an isolated situation? A set-back? It is not a final sentence and does not define you as a whole.
  • Refocus: What change of thinking and feelings do you need?
  • Re-engage: Look for opportunity beyond the failure. How could you go about it differently next time?

Give it a try for yourself, too!!

I agree with the things you have suggested but honestly I sometimes simply say, " Big picture this isn't that important." Now my teens are pretty resilient and know when to move on from the things that aren't worth internalizing. (so far anyway)
