When Science & Art Collide: How to Make Chalk Bombs With Your Kids! by Katie Lewis
Your kids will get a colorful kick out of these DIY chalk bombs! This one is half science experiment, half art project. (For outdoor use only!)
- white vinegar
- zip sandwich bags
- baking soda
- food coloring or chalk paint
Here's how you do it:
- Add some vinegar (about 1/2 to 1 cup) to several zip bags.
- Add a drop or two of food coloring (or chalk paint) in each.
- When you’re ready to launch the chalk bombs, quickly add a tablespoon of baking soda then reseal, shake and toss!
The chemical reaction between the vinegar and baking soda will make the bag expand then pop! You can swirl and move the chalk around with paintbrushes to make beautiful sidewalk art.
