Life Coach Jane Cabrera Shares Her Money-Freedom Strategies!

Many of us have been faced with money worries at one point or another in our lives. Unfortunately, for many of us, our experience of freedom is closely connected to fear of having enough money. 30Second Mom contributor, family life coach and professional speaker Jane Cabrera is on a mission to redefine the relationship between money and freedom. In addition to speaking about money, Jane is also a certified parent educator and author. See what she has to say to our 30Second Mom community about this important topic!

Q: How do you experience money? Always enough or never enough?

A: I always have enough for necessities, and some luxuries, although I always wish I had more for even MORE luxuries!

Q: Do you love to spend, or is spending stressful?

A: I always feel good spending on things for my kids. As a kid, I worried about spending my parents’ money. I still feel a little stress spending on me. I have done a lot work on myself, to become more comfortable spending on me.

Q: Do you ever worry about running out of money?

A: Generally, no. I’ve always been able to make money, find a job when I wanted one. I did feel stress in 2008 when the value of my savings went way down. I never believed in the inflated value of my home during the housing bubble, so the drop didn’t hurt.

Q: Do you love your work, or do you just work for the paycheck?

A: Today I love my work, but I have worked just for the paycheck. I know that feeling. Unless I had another motivation, just working for the paycheck was a drag. I love to feel passion in my work. I think everyone prefers that, right?

Q: Do you save money? If so, what are you saving for?

A: I have always saved for retirement. I used to have an emergency fund, but then I seemed to have emergencies. Now, I have a vacation fund instead! I also save for my kids’ education.

Q: Do you believe there’s a way to change the way you interact with money?

A: Yes. I have changed my own beliefs about money. I know it can change. I took a weekend course that helped me understand my personal money beliefs. Today, I teach that course, along with two amazing instructors and close friends. Here’s a video where Beth talks about the course.

Q: We’ve all heard of the law of attraction. Are there other laws that govern the flow of money?

A: Yes, there are several. One is the Law of FLOW. Money flows – it is energy, it is moving – like electricity. Think “currency.” When you understand flow, you don’t worry about running out.

Q: How do you work with people on their money beliefs?

A: One way we experience “flow” is with a tool called the “Spending Game.” You get to play with money in a safe “game” environment, and spend like crazy! People get to relax and have fun with money, experience it in new ways.

Q: Where can we learn more?

A: The Money Freedom Weekend Experience is coming to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., the weekend of August 23, 24 and 25. Learn more on my website: JaneCabrera.com. Check out the video on the home page, and join me for a free webinar.

Q: What is the best part about being mom?

For me, I’ve been awed by my children. They have talents and perspectives that are so different than mine. I’m always amazed with that, raising them to be the unique and special individuals that they are!

Q: What is the best advice you have been given as a parent?

The best advice is that boys take a little longer to grow out of their appreciation for bathroom humor! ;-)

Q: What is your favorite recipe?

Vegetable Stuffed Shells: I take onions, peppers and garlic and sauté them lightly. Then I boil some broccoli, carrots and spinach. I let them cool, then blend with a little ricotta cheese and an egg. Take that mixture and blend with more ricotta cheese. You want it to have the consistency of ricotta cheese. Cook the shells and stuff them with the cheese mixture, and cover with tomato sauce. I use Ragu, or your can use your favorite from a jar. If you make your own, all the better! Put mozzarella cheese on top to melt. Bake about 45 minutes to an hour at 325 degrees F.
