Should Parents Give Kids a 2-Minute Warning That Tech Time Is About to End? The Answer May Surprise You! by Nicole DeAvilla
Researchers and many parents thought that if they gave children a 2-minute warning before ending TV or other screen time, it would better prepare them for the transition. But, a 2016 study from the University of Washington has shown the opposite to be true!
Kids actually created more fuss when the warning was given. Instead, they found the following tips work well:
- Make screen time part of a routine so kids expect to stop, for example, when breakfast is ready.
- Blame technology! Say the battery is dead, the Wi-Fi is broken, etc.
They also found that 80 percent of the time the kids were happy to move on to the next activity! Just say done.
