Life Skills: Want Kids to Practice Good Judgement? Just Ask Them This One Question!

One of my biggest goals as a mom is to make sure my kids become adults who can make their own good choices. I have one question I ask when I see them about to do or choose something, uh, questionable:

"What do you think might happen...?"

Let's say, "if you throw a ball in the house, eat only cake or candy for lunch, text with a stranger," etc. Their answer must consist of three possible negative outcomes. This question has helped my kids develop the habit of examining potential consequences on their own.

A bonus? I often get to be impressed by their thoughtfulness - then I learn something, too!
