4 Tips to Help Your Child With a Stomach Bug Stay Hydrated! by Dr. Hannah Chow-Johnson
If your child is vomiting, he or she can lose liquids, which quickly leads to dehydration. It’s important to keep kids hydrated, and the key is reintroducing liquids that are light enough not to upset the stomach.
- Start with slow sips of water or clear fluids that include flat soda and pediatric electrolyte solutions.
- If a child throws up, wait 30 minutes before trying again.
- Slowly increase the amount of water as tolerated.
- Avoid milk, caffeinated drinks, carbonated drinks, fruit juices (especially citrus juices) and sugary drinks.
