Does the Flu Vaccine Cause the Flu? What You Should Know!

Influenza (flu) can cause severe illness and even death. Symptoms arise suddenly and may last several days. They include:

  • cough
  • fever/chills
  • muscle aches
  • sore throat
  • runny or stuffy nose
  • headache
  • fatigue

The U.S. Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends that all individuals 6 months of age and older receive the flu vaccine. The flu vaccine does not cause the flu. When people get sick after receiving the vaccine, the illness is not due to the vaccine, but is due to a common cold virus, which causes a much less serious infection.
