Rosacea: Having Red Cheeks Could Mean More Than a Blush

I'm not a heavy drinker, but friends would point out how red my face got after even a glass of wine. I looked like I had way too much blush on, like a clown! I asked my dermatologist and learned I have rosacea. According to the National Rosacea Society, rosacea "is a common but poorly understood disorder of the facial skin that is estimated to affect well over 16 million Americans – and most of them don't know it." The symptoms include:

  • Redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead
  • Small visible blood vessels on the face
  • Bumps or pimples on the face
  • Watery or irritated eyes

It's a relatively common skin condition, but without good care, you can get red, blotchy skin and pimples, and makeup won't help. I use a special facial gel and my skin flush is minimized. I look better and my skin is healthier. If you think you have rosacea, ask your doctor.
