Swimming & Got Water in the Ear? Here's How to Get It Out!

Though not life-threatening, one of the most frustrating hallmarks of summer swimming is when you get water in the ear. It seems like no matter what you do, you can’t get it out. There are several over-the-counter ear drops that will help to dry the water. Or a home remedy can be made. You'll need:

  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons rubbing alcohol
  • 2 teaspoons filtered water

Combine all ingredients. To use, place a few drops of solution in each ear after swimming and as the alcohol evaporates, it will quickly dry the ear. The vinegar helps prevent ear infections and the water dilutes it so the solution isn’t too strong.

I made this last week to use on my grandson, @margaret-steck. Got a plastic travel size bottle and bought a $1 dropper from the pharmacy. Works like a charm! Thanks for the great tip, Dr. Heidi Renner!
