Why Fall Is My (Second) Favorite F-Word: 25 Reasons to Love the Season

Fall has always been my favorite time of year. The fall season has so much to offer: the most beautiful colors, crisp air, comfy clothes, Halloweencomfort food and so much more. My friends and family all know of my love for the season, which I start celebrating every September 1st! I grew up in upstate New York and have wonderful childhood memories of family trips to the Adirondacks and Vermont to picnic, eat maple candy and see the fall foliage.

My husband and I got married in October, my favorite month of the year. Some of my favorite memories and traditions with our boys take place during this season as well. If fall is not yet your favorite (or second favorite) “F-word,” consider the following and maybe you’ll just change your mind:

  1. Apple picking.
  2. Pumpkin patches.
  3. Hay rides and corn mazes.
  4. The fashion: flannels, boots, leggings, sweaters – all the comfy, cozy fall gear!
  5. No more sweating!
  6. Colorful leaves.
  7. Jumping in the leaves!
  8. Blankets and throws.
  9. The crisp scent in the air.
  10. Bonfires and s’mores.
  11. Hot apple cider, apple cider cocktailspumpkin spicehot cocoa, hot toddy – pick your poison!
  12. Pumpkin carving.
  13. Halloween candy.
  14. Costumes! (Even adults can join in on the fun – I always do!)
  15. Leaf-peeping and weekend getaways.
  16. Pie and cider donuts.
  17. Relaxing by the fire with a good book.
  18. Gaining an extra hour of sleep in October!
  19. Fall festivities.
  20. Fall décor.
  21. Comfort food.
  22. Turning off the A/C and opening the windows.
  23. Nature walks and the sound of crunchy leaves.
  24. A focus on gratitude.
  25. New beginnings.

“The windows are open, admitting the September breeze: a month that smells like notepaper and pencil shavings, autumn leaves and car oil. A month that smells like progress, like moving on.” – Lauren Oliver

“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” – L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

OMG! Yes! We are getting our first "cold" front tonight, and my husband and I sat out in the driveway hoping to feel it come and get that first burst of cooler air. We're in Texas, so it's a HUGE deal. We didn't get to feel it yet, but hoping to go outside in the morning and feel fall. My favorite season!

I absolutely love this, Ann Marie Gardinier Halstead , and I am with you! Fall has always been my favorite season. The colors, the crunchy leaves, the bonfires, the s'mores, the boots, the football games. And more recently, the Oktoberfests with my husband, Dieter Schmitz . My birthday is in October, so maybe that's why, too. I love your wedding photo in the leaves - beautiful. Thank you for sharing and helping us to kick off the season in spirit!

Love this! Can't say I'm a football fan, but I love being able to wear turtleneck shirts (even if I'm the only one who still wears them... :-)) We lived in CT from the time I was in 3rd grade till I left for college, and the fall colors were so pretty there. We still get pretty falls here in west TN, but not the brilliant colors we used to see in CT.
