Hiding Unhappiness: How Therapy (and Divorce) Helped Me See People

It's common knowledge that I have struggled with my mental health both before and after I had my daughter – and especially since my divorce. It's also common knowledge that I try my hardest to be there for people who are dealing with things similar to what I've been through.

I tend to think I can see through the foggy glass more than most, now that I have been through it. I can see that people mask happiness in an effort to show things are great. I can tell that things aren't great. I can see so many people attempt to focus all their efforts and energy into one particular activity, thinking that will make them happy in the end.

To them I say, don't be too proud. Take a step back. Evaluate your life. Change is inevitable, and constant. Don't stay unhappy just for the sake of looks. Realize that it's OK to be unhappy, and find a way to change. Go to a therapist. Talk to someone. Seek help.

No one is perfect. Everyone deserves to wake up and be happy. Find what makes you happy and go for it.
