What's the Point in Hiding Mental Illness? Let's Reach Out & Support Each Other

I've noticed lately how many people I know who are struggling. Maybe I'm just noticing it more because I have been struggling, or my 30Seconds posts actually resonate with people (which would be exciting!). Either way, I'm happy to be someone people can reach out to because they're going through their own situations.

When people come to me, I try to act how I would want to be treated. Instead of saying, "People are worried about you," I try to say something along the lines of "What can I do to help?" When I'm struggling and overwhelmed with all I am trying to do, just having someone say they are here for me makes such a big difference. Instead of telling me that people are talking about me, let me know you are here to help.

It's highly likely I will encourage people to seek help – whether it's a therapist or medication – more often than not. I've had both help me in periods of my life. That's the beauty of it: sometimes we need help in medications and other times we can get by through talking to a professional. Sometimes it's both.

Be the person who is there to support by offering to listen or help. You never know how much that means to someone.

I love the realness of your posts, Jessica Lawrence . I have no doubt that your writing is resonating with people, and that is why you are seeing and hearing more and more people respond in some way. "Be the person who is there to support by offering to listen or help." This is perfectly said. Thank you for all you share with us.
