Can't Get Rid of Your Sports Injury? Fascia Health May Be the Missing Link in the Equation

Could fascia be the missing piece of your lingering injury puzzle? When RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation), PT (physical therapy) and Advil aren't working, give some love to your fascia. Fa-who?

Fascia is your one-piece catsuit holding in muscle and bone. It wraps around each individual part and allows them to slide during movement. It structures your insides and gives your body its shape. This slippery one piece web can develop sticky adhesions to muscle creating restrictions. This can lead to a myriad of compensations and possibly resistant injuries.

According to Thomas Myers, author of "Anatomy Trains," "While every anatomy lists around 600 separate muscles, it is more accurate to say that there is one muscle poured into 600 pockets of the fascial webbing."

Pilates on the reformer gives some love to your fascia and keeps it hydrated and gliding smoothly. This full-body method strategically stretches the entire body head to toe. The reformer's footbar compresses the plantar fascia to re-hydrate it much like a foam roller. Pilates corrects poor mechanics that may be maintaining fascial adhesions.
