Healthy Eating Strategies: 3 Foods to Beware of From a Nutritionist (You Won't Believe No. 1)

Healthy fats are healthy, right? Superfoods are super healthy, right? Not so fast.

Here are some new insights into healthy eating. I suggest, in my opinion, you beware of the following:

  • Superfoods: You might be tempted to load up on them for antioxidant benefits. "Superfood" is really a marketing term and doesn't have a legal or scientific definition. It’s important to understand that superfoods are not magic bullets, and throwing a few superfoods into a diet that is unhealthy or unbalanced won’t magically transform it.
  • Healthy fats: You might be tempted to replace your unhealthy fat cravings with healthy fats. One thing that you need to keep in mind is that whatever type of fat you choose, fat is very energy dense, which means that foods that contain a lot of fat, regardless of whether good or bad fat, contain a lot of calories. So if you are watching your weight you need to mindful of the amount you eat.
  • Fizzy Drinks: They are potentially the worst thing in the world for your health. Get your sugar fix from fruit instead.

This makes so much sense, Fiona Hunter . You could eat bags of cookies, high-fat foods and sugary snacks and then eat a handful of blueberries and think they'll fix you. Great advice! Welcome to the tribe! Look forward to learning more from you!

This is really helpful info, Fiona Hunter . I love to eat acai bowls for breakfast, which I consider containing a "super food." I agree it's not a magic bullet, but it makes me feel better (literally) than eating other breakfast foods!
