Fourth Trimester of Pregnancy: How You Feel in the First Trimester May Forecast Life With a Newborn by Melissa Hurt

Fourth Trimester of Pregnancy: How You Feel in the First Trimester May Forecast Life With a Newborn

Women experience many emotions and sensations in their first trimester of pregnancy. From being thrilled to terrified, no morning sickness to nausea at the thought of food to vomiting daily, it's all a range and your experience is totally normal because it is your experience – there is no standard! Your experience in the first trimester may be a model for how life will be with a newborn in the fourth trimester.

  • The fatigue you feel in pregnancy is your body's way to develop and situate the embryo to support the pregnancy. Rest and let it do its job.
  • You will be thrilled and terrified with this change in life and will wonder how to best take care of this beautiful being.
  • You will feel exhausted in the fourth trimester now that the placenta has left and you nurture your baby day and night. The rush of emotions (good and bad) are your brain and body's workings to find hormonal balance. Breathe, know it's normal and will be OK.

As a certified yoga teacher and an embodiment coach, I encourage you to find a yoga practice focusing more on restorative poses and meditation to align with your feelings and honor your fatigue – it serves a purpose. Find support to nurture yourself. Be well.
