Stroke Prevention Tips: 4 Lifestyle Changes to Start Today to Reduce Your Stroke Risk

I just received an email from the American Heart Association (AHA) and the stats are alarming. Every 40 seconds someone has a stroke! 

I have to admit, I did not know this fact and thought immediately how many others might not know this. I felt compelled to share this with our tribe to help spread the word about the importance of stroke prevention. 

Here are four stroke prevention tips from the AHA:

  • Get Enough Zzzzz's: Seven to eight hours of sleep each night can help you rise and shine with enough energy to face your day.
  • Be a Social Butterfly: Studies show that people who spend too much time alone have a higher risk of stroke.
  • Move Your Body: Just 30 minutes of daily exercise can lower your risk of stroke.
  • Get Yourself to the Doctor: Schedule regular visits and talk to your doctor about your risks and how you can reduce them.

My dad had a stroke two years ago. One minute he was fine, the next he wasn't. We were all together (it was Halloween night) so help was called immediately. He was lucky. It's so important to be informed about stroke and heart health. Thanks for the reminder, Meredith Schneider .

I didn't know that simply making sure you plenty of sleep was one of the best things you can do to prevent a storke. That's good to know. I at least aim for 7 but I prefer 8.
