Mindful Self-Care: 4 Ways for Moms to Nurture the Mind, Body & Soul

As women, we often put the care of others above ourselves. Mindful self-care not only benefits us, but those we care for as well. Taking time to fill our own cups allows us to fill the cups of others in a healthy way. Here are a few ways to bring mindful self-care into your day:

  • Just Breathe: Stop what you're doing and take the deepest breath you have taken all day. Then exhale slowly. Mindful breathing can help balance you when you are feeling overwhelmed by bringing your focus back to the present.
  • Move Your Body: Take a walk around the block. Practice yoga. Go for a run. Exercise, even a little, can improve your mood, decrease stress and promote restful sleep.
  • Brain Dump: Clear the clutter from your mind by writing “stream of consciousness.” Take 15 minutes and just write whatever pops into your head. Don't worry about grammar. Just write.
  • Don't Be Afraid to Say No: No is a complete sentence. It doesn't require explanation. This one takes some practice, especially if you are a people pleaser. Being able to say no freely and without guilt is one of the most liberating acts of self-care you can give yourself.
