Baking Soda for Sunburn? Yes! Here's How to Use Baking Soda to Soothe Sunburns

Sunburns seem to be a commonly accepted consequence of too much sun exposure. While these seemingly “normal” skin afflictions strike an alarming percentage of the population, the health consequences that can result from these periods of excessive sun exposure include major skin issues, such as skin cancer, later in life. While many companies try to capitalize on fears of skin cancer by providing plentiful products that promise to safeguard the skin from the sun’s harmful rays, few provide adequate safety and security from sun exposure. These products that claim to safeguard the skin from the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays contain countless chemicals and synthetic ingredients that can exacerbate chronic skin conditions or even intensify sunburns.

When a sunburn does occur, the most effective healing treatment contains baking soda! With an antiinflammatory effect that also helps regulate and balance the body’s pH, baking soda can help relieve the pain of sunburns while protecting the skin’s cells from cancerous mutations that can be life-altering and life-threatening.

Whenever a sunburn is sustained, a simple solution of 1 part baking soda and 1 part aloe vera can be applied to the skin’s surface and wrapped with gauze for a period of 1 hour. After the hour is up, the applications should be washed off with tepid water. Additionally, a bath soak that consists of 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of aloe vera can be utilized for immediate all-over relief and protection against harmful cellular changes. Soak for about 15 to 20 minutes and then let yourself air dry so as not to wipe the baking soda off.
