Natural Diaper Rash Treatments: How Baking Soda Helps Treat Diaper Rash!

Countless moms around the country seek help in providing their babies with relief from diaper rash. In an occurrence of diaper rash, a child experiences pain and discomfort that can be compared to those experienced by an adult dealing with diarrhea or hemorrhoids. With several soothing applications available with prescriptions and over-the-counter products, it can be confusing as to which to use, how to apply and how to alleviate the underlying issue.

Diaper rash usually occurs when a baby goes too long between diaper changes or when sensitivities to certain foods trigger diarrhea that results in a rash. The acidity of urine in particular can harm a baby’s delicate skin and cause a red bumpy rash that is uncomfortable and sometimes painful. Chronic cases of this skin condition can adversely affect the growth and development of a young child, sometimes delaying certain milestones for months at a time. To exacerbate the situation, diaper rash can be intensified with over-the-counter treatments intended to alleviate the condition. Chemicals and synthetic additives intended to soothe the problem can actually worsen it. In lieu of these commonly prescribed ointments, many parents are looking for all-natural alternatives that can provide relief without the risk of adverse side effects.

With a simple sprinkle of baking soda on an irritated area, the risk of bacterial infection, inflammation and pain are all reduced significantly. Any caregiver can make a simple paste made of 1 part baking soda and 1 part aloe vera that can be rubbed onto the affected skin area and left on for hours without concern. With pH-balancing effects that help combat the common symptoms of diaper rash, baking soda can help maintain optimal health by preventing future rashes from occurring.
