How to Keep the Flu Away: 5 Tips From a Doctor to Help You Survive Flu Season!

You've no doubt read that flu season is in full swing. Here are a few reminders to help keep you and your family healthy courtesy of Dr. Curtis Mann, a Family Medicine doctor at NorthShore University HealthSystem.

  • Vaccinate! The annual flu vaccine is the best way to protect against and prevent the spread of the flu. Everyone over the age of 6 months can and should be vaccinated against the flu each year.
  • Wash your hands. Regular hand washing is one of the very best ways to avoid spreading illness and getting sick. It only takes a little water, some soap and the ABCs – don’t stop washing until you get to Z.
  • Remember your devices. Wipe down the screens and bodies of your gadgets regularly with a non-alcohol based cleaner.
  • Be healthy to stay healthy. Make sure you are getting adequate sleep, stay active with exercise, make sure you are managing your stress levels and eat a healthy, well-balanced diet whenever possible.
  • See your doctor. If you think you were exposed to someone with the flu, anti-viral drugs, which are 70 to 90 percent effective, can help prevent you from developing the flu.

Stay healthy!

Thanks Belinda Lichty Clarke for these awesome keep the flu away tips! I know I'm driving my kids crazy constantly asking them if they washed their hands and encouraging they all get to bed a little earlier to make sure their little bodies are getting enough rest to keep their immune systems strong. They came home today telling me there are a lot of kids missing in their classes. Stay healthy #30Seconds Tribe! xoxo
