Ivanka Trump was thrust into the political spotlight when her father, Donald Trump, first ran and then became President of the United States. Now, the first daughter and adviser to President Trump is on "The Dr. Oz Show," and opened up with Dr. Oz and the world about her struggles with postpartum depression (PPD) with each of her three children.

“With each of my three children, I had some level of postpartum and it was ..." starts Ivanka, mother of Arabella, 6, Joseph, 3, and Theodore.

"Postpartum?" asks Dr. Oz.

"Um, depression," says Ivanka. "It was a very, it was a very challenging, emotional time for me, because I felt like I was not living up to my potential as a parent, um, or as an entrepreneur and as an executive. And I had had such easy pregnancies that in some way, the juxtaposition hit me even harder."

"Why are you willing to talk about something as personal as postpartum depression now?" asks Dr. Oz.

"Well, I didn't know I was, but you asked me a question and, um, and it's incredibly important," Ivanka continues. "And, look, I consider myself a very hard-charging person. I am ambitious, I'm passionate, I'm driven but this is something that affects parents all over the country."

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) research has found that about one in nine woman experience postpartum depression, according to an article from CNN. Actress Lena Headey ("Game of Thrones"), singer Adele and supermodel Chrissy Teigen are other celebrities that have talked publicly about their battles with PPD.

This video is longer than 30 seconds, but we think it's worth it.

Kudos to Ivanka Trump for opening up to Dr. Oz about her battles with postpartum depression. It's a tough subject to talk about openly, but we need more of a dialogue to raise awareness and help more mothers. Thank you to Lindsay Gerszt Dr. Christina Hibbert Dr. Sarah Allen and many others for all of the great work in this area!

Such an important topic! It helps to know we are not alone and that those in the public eye are just like us. So can relate to what she said about her pregnancies and all to follow afterwards. My 4 pregnancies were luckily pretty easy but the emotional roller coaster and mind games your hormones do to you was really hard. Love Ivanka and her openness to share.
