Got Text Neck? How to Avoid Forward Head Position From Looking at Screens

Cell phones have become like one of our limbs. We can't live without them. More and more of our lives are spent looking at, and working on, our screens both big and small. Our lives are enriched by technology in a myriad of ways. These devices can, however, harm our bodies if we are not aware of how they may be changing our posture. Forward head position, or text neck, can cause headaches, neck pain, reduced lung capacity and early onset arthritis. Luckily, the fix is simple:

  • Ban slouching and sit up straight and tall.
  • Keep your head in a neutral position and bring your screen up to eye level.
  • Practice reminding yourself or your kids to check posture hourly with an alarm, if necessary.
