Summer Shape Up: Tips to Help You Look & Feel Your Best This Season

With the first day of summer approaching, you can still get on track to see some results. A safe and achievable rate of weight loss is about 1 or 2 pounds a week. To do this, you need to tilt your calorie balance in the negative direction by about 500 calories per day. A pound of fat stores about 3,500 calories. If you burn up 500 calories every day for a week, you’ll lose about a pound of fat.

  • Diet and Exercise: The best way to create your calorie “shortage” is with a combination of a balanced nutrient-dense diet (veggies and low-fat proteins) and exercise. Don’t try to just do one or the other.
  • Shake It Up: Calorie counting is often one of the hardest things to do. Meal replacement shakes can help track calories and are "nutrient dense."
