Do You Hate Your Job? Listen Up! It Could Impact Your Health! by Mei Marcie

Do You Hate Your Job? Listen Up! It Could Impact Your Health!

A study by the Ohio State University showed that job satisfaction in your early career (late 20s and early 30s) can impact your health, especially mental health, in your early 40s. In particular, low job satisfaction is linked with:

  • higher levels of depression
  • sleep problems
  • excessive worry
  • emotional problems
  • lower scores on a test of overall mental health

Those whose job satisfaction remained low or worsened reported poorer overall health and more problems, like back pain and frequent colds. While the data does not show causation, prolonged and worsening job satisfaction could increase anxiety and depression and could lead to cardiovascular or other health problems.

yes... Mei Marcie can't tell you how many times this comes up with my adult clients! I really try to emphasize with my college-aged clients that their future career does not need to feel like "work" if they are aligned to their values, giftings, and talents. So important!!

Yes Kelli Schulte and in this age with so many new jobs & things are always changing, there's no 'guaranteed' profession and it's best to follow your interests and what you can commit to! Pity that I grew up during the time when there seems to be some career path you ought to follow, missed the "millennial" age!
