Morning May Not Be the Best Time to Drink Coffee: Say What? Here’s Why!

Coffee isn't the only thing that keeps us awake and going. A naturally occurring boost comes from a hormone within each of us called cortisol. According to the Hormone Health Network, "cortisol is one of the steroid hormones and is made in the adrenal glands. Most cells within the body have cortisol receptors. Secretion of the hormone is controlled by the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland and the adrenal gland."

Cortisol levels give us a natural boost between 8 and 9 a.m. Consuming caffeine at our peak levels of cortisol release cancels out the boost we're looking for and we can actually build up a tolerance to caffeine. So in the mornings, let your body give you the boost you need naturally – and then enjoy that cup of joe. Cheers!
