Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is a neurological disorder characterized by throbbing, pulling, creeping or other unpleasant sensations in the legs and an uncontrollable – and sometimes overwhelming – urge to move them, according to National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). Symptoms of RLS generally occur at night and moving the legs often relieves symptoms.
Certain changes and activities can help some reduce symptoms. They include:
- Decrease caffeine, alcohol and tobacco.
- Massage legs.
- Take hot baths.
- Use a heating pad or ice packs.
