Don't Knock Napping! Here's a Healthy Reason to Take a Nap!

Love your afternoon naps? Don't feel a bit bad about it! Why? That mid-day snooze may do even more good than you think! A study, presented at the European Society of Cardiology conference in London, found that naps may reduce blood pressure, which could prevent heart attacks. Middle-aged women and men who napped had lower blood pressure when awake and during sleep at night.

“Our study shows that not only is midday sleep associated with lower blood pressure, but longer sleeps are even more beneficial," said Dr. Manolis Kallistratos, a cardiologist at Asklepieion Voula General Hospital in Athens, Greece. "Midday sleepers had greater dips in blood pressure while sleeping at night which is associated with better health outcomes. We also found that hypertensive patients who slept at noon were under fewer antihypertensive medications compared to those who didn’t sleep midday.”

We’d tell you more about this study, but it’s time for a nap... OK, you can read more about this study via Escardio.com.

Unfortunately, even if you took the guilt out, I don't think I could nap. I always wake up feeling groggy. Maybe I'm not doing it right! lol Meredith Schneider
