LAM: Rare Respiratory Disease Strikes Women in Childbearing Years

For most women childbearing years are some of their healthiest, but there’s a rare lung disease that strikes women during this time. Lymphangioleiomyomatosis, or LAM disease, almost exclusively affects women and can lead to respiratory failure and even death. Symptoms include:

  • shortness of breath
  • chest pain
  • chronic cough
  • lung collapse

There’s no cure, but early intervention and treatment can improve a patient’s quality of life and dramatically extend lifespan. Talk to your doctor if you are experiencing symptoms.
