How to Stop Worrying So Much: The No. 1 Question You Need to Ask Yourself Right Now

Worries bother us. We often can’t sleep or concentrate because thoughts go round and around in our heads. Worrying seems to make sense because it gives the brain a false belief that it’s doing something about the problem.

You continue to worry because our mind things:

  • Maybe I’ll find a solution.
  • I don’t want to overlook anything.
  •  If I keep thinking a little longer, maybe I’ll figure it out.
  •  I don’t want to be surprised. If I consider all the possible outcomes I’ll be more in control when something bad happens.

Telling yourself to stop worrying doesn’t work for long. Instead of trying to push thoughts out of your head, sit down and face the issue. Here's a two-step plan to help reduce worrying:

  • Ask yourself: "Do I have control over the situation?"
  • Is your worry solvable? If it is, think of an action plan. If it isn’t, then it’s time to let it go.

What techniques do you use to help stop worrying so much about everything?
