Easy Chicken & Dumplings Recipe: Homemade Chicken & Dumplings in 45 Minutes? Yep!

Craving comfort food? You can have a pot of chicken and dumplings on the table inexpensively, in less than an hour. Seriously! Nourishing comfort food at its finest.

Cook Time: 40 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes


Here's how to make it:

  1. Put the water, salt and the chicken in a large pot. Add the celery and onion and bring to a boil. Cook at a slow simmer until chicken is done, about 30 minutes.
  2. Remove chicken, cool slightly and remove the meat. Add the meat back to the pot along with the can of cream of chicken soup. 
  3. Bring to a boil and add the flour tortillas. Boil, covered, about 8 minutes. Season with black pepper and salt, to taste. For color, I add chopped parsley.

Cut out tortilla in strips like noodles. We like our chicken soup thicker, so I added only 4 cups water.

That looks so good! I make this all the time. I'll make a pot and we pack it up and eat on it for two days at the dear lease. I always use 8 cups of water, but will try cutting it in half once and see how we like it thicker. Great idea. I also cut my tortillas pretty big. Going to try your way next time, too.
