Essential 5-Ingredient Orange "Teriyaki" Sauce Recipe: Asian Flavor In 10 Minutes by Elisa Schmitz

Essential 5-Ingredient Orange "Teriyaki" Sauce Recipe: Asian Flavor In 10 Minutes

If you're like me, you enjoy the flavor of teriyaki sauce on everything from seafood to chicken to beef. It may be tempting to buy the bottled teriyaki sauce at the store, but it's almost easier to just make your own teriyaki-style sauce at home and in mere minutes.

This quick and easy five-ingredient orange "teriyaki" sauce recipe brings rich Asian flavor to a variety of recipes in about 10 minutes. You need only five simple ingredients to make dinner magic: soy sauce, orange juice, water, cornstarch and honey.

This citrus-y sauce is phenomenal as is. But you can experiment with optional add-ins to tweak the sauce recipe and create an even more interesting flavor (see Recipe Notes for suggestions). This sauce is so easy and so delicious, you just may make your own sauce from now on.

Serve this savory sauce with your favorite Asian recipes, or use it in any recipe that calls for teriyaki sauce as an ingredient. Try it on my orange teriyaki-glazed salmon recipe. Enjoy making this recipe your own!

Recipe Notes

  • This sauce is phenomenal as is. But if you'd like, you can experiment with other optional add-ins to tweak the flavor, such as a half teaspoon of minced garlic, minced fresh ginger, minced green onions or a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Sauce will thicken in the refrigerator, so reheat it when you'd like to use any leftovers.

Here's how to make it:

  1. In a saucepot over medium heat, combine all the ingredients and whisk until smooth.
  2. Bring to a low boil, then reduce heat and cook, whisking constantly, until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes. The longer you cook the sauce, the thicker it will get, so keep an eye on it and remove from heat when it reaches desired consistency.
  3. Serve immediately. Sauce will thicken in the refrigerator, so reheat it when you'd like to use any leftovers.
