Donut Bread Recipe: This Amazing Cinnamon-Sugar Bread Will Leave You Speechless

No words. Really, no words. This cinnamon-sugar donut bread recipe will leave you speechless. It is that good. Moist, sweet and tender with a buttery cinnamon-sugar coating, it is a must-make dessert recipe. And it really tastes like a cinnamon donut!

The bread is made with oil, butter, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla, flour, baking powder, salt, buttermilk and ground cinnamon. Some of the batter is separated and cinnamon is stirred in. The two batters are layered in a loaf pan, then gently swirled together. Bake the bread for about 45 minutes then remove and let it cool. While the bread bakes, put the melted butter for the coating in a shallow dish and the granulated sugar, brown sugar and cinnamon in another shallow dish. The bread takes a bath in the butter and then is completely coated with the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Again, no words.

Cinnamon and donut lovers are going to be crazy about this easy donut bread. Serve the sweet bread warm or at room temperature for dessert or as a sweet snack.

Recipe Notes

  • Store any leftover bread in an airtight container.
  • You could add other warm baking spices to this bread like nutmeg, cardamom or ginger.

Here's how to make it:

  1. Whisk together the vegetable oil, butter and sugar in a bowl. Add the eggs and vanilla. Mix well.
  2. Add the flour, baking powder, salt and buttermilk. Stir until just combined.
  3. Remove 1/2 cup of the batter into a small bowl. Stir in the cinnamon.
  4. Pour half of the bread batter into a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan. Spoon half of the cinnamon batter over the top. Top with the remaining batter without the cinnamon, then add the remaining cinnamon batter. Use a butter knife and swirl the batters together.
  5. Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool about 10 minutes before removing from the pan.
  6. While the bread cools, put the melted butter into a shallow dish. Stir together the granulated sugar, brown sugar and cinnamon in another shallow dish. When you can pick up the bread, dip all the sides in the butter and then coat all sides with the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Let the bread continue to cool or slice and serve warm.

Any way possible to make this diabetic friendly?

I really don't think so, Lorie. This recipe has a lot of sugar! We are working on adding more diabetic-friendly recipes to the site. Stay tuned!

Splenda makes both brown & white sugar substitutes, which I understand can be used on a 1:1 basis. Haven't used either for baking myself, so I'd definitely suggest reading the packaging before making the investment. Hope this helps!

OMG Donna John! This is going to leave me a LOT more than speechless. It's going to leave me fluffy(er) 😱. My INTENT is to bake & share with the other 3 ladies that live on my floor - but I have a sneaking suspicion it'll never make it out the door. 😏😁🤗
