Even though pomegranates are labor-intensive fruit, their juicy seeds are so delicious and loaded with vitamin C and antioxidants that it's well worth the task. Here's how to pick, store and eat a pomegranate – and how to get the seeds out easily.
- When selecting a pomegranate, look for deep, beet-red skin.
- Store pomegranates on the counter, not the refrigerator.
- Eat the seeds raw in salads, on yogurt or ice cream, or in recipes or cocktails.
- Pomegranates have health benefits! Just 1/3 cup offers 3.5 grams of fiber, 205 mg of potassium and 1.5 grams of protein!
Now the most important part! To get the seeds out to enjoy:
- Slice the pomegranate in half.
- Squeeze out the juice.
- Scrape out the contents and seeds with a spoon.
- Wriggle out the seeds by hand from the membrane.
