Lemon Tartar Sauce Recipe: A Refreshing Sidekick for Seafood by Ann Marie Patitucci

Lemon Tartar Sauce Recipe: A Refreshing Sidekick for Seafood

Tartar sauce has been found in cookbooks since the 19th century. The name derives from the French sauce "tartare." Lately I’ve enjoyed making my own homemade salad dressings and sauces. Not only is homemade just better, but it’s always nice to save money at the grocery store.

This lemon tartar sauce recipe is quick, easy and a great sidekick to your favorite seafood and fish dishes. I especially like it with a good ol’ fashioned fish fry.

Cuisine: French
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 0 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes

Servings: Makes about 1/2 cup

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup light mayonnaise (I prefer Hellmann’s)
  • 1/3 cup light sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons sweet relish
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest

Here's how to make it:

  1. Mix together the mayonnaise, sour cream, sweet relish and lemon zest in a bowl.
  2. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Use cold or at room temperature.
