You don't need many ingredients to make this southern chocolate cobbler recipe. Here is your simple shopping list: butter, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, self-rising flour, milk, vanilla extract and water. The cobbler is made like a dump cake; you don't but don't stir.

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups boiling water

  • Do not stir as you layer the ingredients. Let the cobbler do its magic in the oven.

Here's how to make it: 

  1. Pour the melted butter into a 13x9-inch baking pan
  2. Combine the sugar, cocoa powder, flour, milk and vanilla in a bowl. Mix well. Dollop the mixture on top of the melted butter. Do not stir!
  3. In another bowl, combine the 2 cups of sugar and 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder. Sprinkle the mixture over the batter. 
  4. Carefully pour the boiling water over the top. Do not stir!
  5. Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 35 to 40 minutes or until the top has set.
