July 4th Flag Cake: A Fun and Patriotic Recipe to Make With Your Kids by Elisa A. Schmitz 30Seconds
Sometimes, the simple things in life make holidays better. Less stress, less mess, more time spent with loved ones. And, one of my favorite things to do with my kids is create things in our kitchen. Holidays are a perfect time for this.
On Memorial Day or July 4th, they help marinate the meats, make salads, etc. Dessert? I leave it up to them entirely. They love to make this yummy July 4th or Memorial Day flag cake, and I love this easy recipe for a fun and patriotic flag cake that kids can help make. Spend some time together and have a sweet treat as a result!
- Buy a ready-made angel food cake or pound cake, or make a cake yourself using Chef Gigi's easy DIY yellow cake mix.
- Cover it in whipped cream.
- Slice strawberries and make "stripes" across the cake.
- Fill in the "stars" area of the flag with strategically-placed blueberries.
It's an easy way to be festive on the 4th, and the result is light, fresh and delish!
