Grandma's Easy A1 Chili Recipe Is Straight From Her Recipe Box by Donna John

Grandma's Easy A1 Chili Recipe Is Straight From Her Recipe Box

Taking out my grandma's recipe box that I got after she passed is comforting to me. I love looking through her recipes – some cut out from the newspaper, some handwritten on index cards – and seeing her writing and remembering the tastes of smells of her house.

Here's an easy recipe from her recipe box that's a little different than the fried chicken, chicken and dumplings and other comfort food recipes she was famous for. To make this chili recipe you will need ground beef, green bell pepper, onion, garlic, chili powder, a can of tomatoes, steak sauce, water and red kidney beans. The hearty gluten-free chili simmers on the stovetop until it develops a deep, rich flavor.

Serve this easy A1 ground beef chili recipe on those cold winter nights or during the big games. It makes a perfect lunch or dinner any day of the week.

Recipe Notes

  • Try this easy chili recipe with ground turkey instead of ground beef.
  • Not a fan of A1 Steak Sauce? Use your favorite steak sauce.
  • For some spice, add some chopped jalapeno.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer.

Here's how to make it:

  1. In a large soup pot, cook the ground beef, bell pepper, onion and garlic until the beef is browned, about 10 minutes. Add the chili powder and cook 1 more minute.
  2. Add the chopped tomatoes and their juice, steak sauce and water. Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add the beans. Cover and simmer 15 more minutes. Serve with desired chili toppings.
