How to Keep Your Brown Sugar From Hardening (or Save It After It Has)!

I hate it when I’m following a recipe that calls for brown sugar only to find that it has hardened into a brick. Such a waste of sugar and money! Here are some tips!

  • Keeping your brown sugar in an airtight bag or container can help keep it from losing moisture and therefore fossilizing.
  • Another way to keep it from getting rock-like is to store a couple of marshmallows in the same bag – this can help the sugar retain its water content.
  • If you’re too late, one way to salvage your brown sugar is to transfer it to a glass bowl and pop it in the microwave with a wet paper towel for 20-30 seconds.

Happy baking!
