3-Ingredient Amish Root Beer Recipe: How the Pennsylvania Dutch Make Homemade Root Beer

Are you a root beer lover? Did you know you can make your own homemade root beer? Well, the Amish did! Here's a fun root beer recipe straight from the Pennsylvania Dutch country for you to try in your own kitchen.

Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 hours
Cook Time: 0 minutes

Total Time: 5 hours
Servings: Makes 1 gallon

Ingredients

Here's how to make it:

  1. Put all the ingredients into a gallon container to a tight-fitting lid. Fill it about half full with warm water. Shake to combine.
  2. Add more lukewarm water to fill. Put the cap on and set it in the sun or a warm place for at least 4 hours.
  3. After 4 hours put it into the refrigerator to chill. When it's cold, it's ready to serve over ice or in a root beer float with vanilla ice cream.

I made this two days ago. It was delicious with vanilla ice cream. However, tried another root beer float the next day and the root beer tasted off, like a chemical taste. Does anybody know how long this recipe keeps???

Brilliant idea...

Do you sell any brand of Amish root beer online? It would be great to get a root beer without the junk High Fructose Corn Syrup and sugar instead. Also, being with only a small amount of ingredients.
