Amish Pan-seared Pork Chops Recipe With Homemade Brown Gravy

Golden pan-seared pork chops with a homemade brown gravy is the definition of comfort food. And nobody cooks like the Amish!

This easy Amish pork chop recipe is ready in 30 minutes, cooks in one pan and will fill up your belly – and may bring back memories of simpler times.

  • 4 - 6 pork chops (about 1 to 1 1/2 pounds)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika

Brown Gravy

Here's how to make it:

  1. Combine the flour, garlic powder and paprika in a bowl. 
  2. Melt the butter in a large skillet. Season the pork chops with salt and pepper, then dredge in the flour mixture. Put them into the hot butter. Cook the pork chops until golden brown on both sides and cooked through, about 4 to 5 minutes per side depending on how thick the chops are. Remove to a plate, cover and set aside. 
  3. To make the brown gravy, bring the beef broth to a boil in the same skillet. Whisk in the garlic powder, onion powder and Worcestershire sauce. 
  4. Combine the cornstarch and water to make a slurry. Whisk it into the gravy. Cook until it thickens, about 3 to 4 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Spoon the hot gravy over the pork chops.
