20-Minute Pad Gra Prow Recipe: This May Be the Best Stir-fried Thai Basil Beef You've Ever Eaten

Stir-fried basil beef is said to be the most popular street food in Thailand. We believe it! This easy pad gra prow recipe takes about 20 minutes from start to finish to make. (Be sure to try pad krapow gai, too, a similar dish made with chicken!)

Cuisine: Thai
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients

Here's how to make it:

  1. Heat the oil in a large skillet or wok. Add the shallots, garlic, ginger, bell pepper and Thai chiles, if using. Cook, stirring, for about 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it up into small pieces, until cooked through and browned.
  3. In a bowl, combine the sugar, fish sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, garlic chili sauce, broth, water and cornstarch. Whisk to combine.
  4. Pour the mixture into the pan with the ground beef. Cook, stirring, about 2 to 4 minutes or until thickened. Season with black pepper.
  5. Stir in the basil leaves and cook about 1 more minute.
