10-Minute Homemade Asian Sweet Chili Sauce Recipe

Dumplings, eggrolls, spring rolls, chicken nuggets and french fries won't know what hit them when they're dunked in this easy sweet chili sauce recipe. You could also use it as a glaze for ribs or chicken and in your favorite Asian recipes.

Servings: Makes 1 cup

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water 
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine or dry sherry
  • 1 tablespoon sambal oelek
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon low-sodium soy sauce
  • red food coloring (optional)

Here's how to make it:

  1. Combine the cornstarch and water in a small bowl. Set aside.
  2. Put the remaining ingredients in a saucepot. Bring to a boil, stirring, and cook until sugar has dissolved. 
  3. Add the cornstarch mixture and cook, stirring, about 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from heat and cool.

I have a question. The recipe calls for both rice vinegar and rice wine vinegar.
Aren't they the same thing ?

Rice wine is different than rice wine vinegar. You could use sherry instead of you can't find it.
